To help to focus our work, we have identified a number of key application areas and key technology areas.

Key application areas are broad fields where technological innovation has a major role to play and which represent major societal challenges or are associated with the challenge of maintaining a world-leading position.

Key application areas currently include:

In each of these areas we will identify challenges, establish priorities and develop strategies which specify the key interventions.
