Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Technology Initiative [JTI]

The Innovative Medicines Initiative JTI is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the pharmaceutical industry represented by the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and the European Communities represented by the European Commission.  With the overall goal to make Europe the world leader in pharmaceutical research for the benefit of the economy and society, by removing research bottlenecks in the current drug development process.

Innovative Medicines Initiative JTI is a high scale pan-European collaboration between the European Community and the bio-pharmaceutical industry.   The Innovative Medicines Initiative JTI Joint Undertaking Research Agenda is based on the recommendations of the Strategic Research Agenda that was developed by the European Technology Platform on Innovative Medicines through extensive consultation with a large group of stakeholders from academia, SMEs, regulatory agencies and patient organisations.

The next Innovative Medicines Initiative call is foreseen to open by 30 October with a deadline by the end of January 2010. See website for the Innovative Medicines Initiative call http://imi.europa.eu/calls-02_en.html

The topics are based on Innovative Medicines Initiative research priorities for 2009 include research in the two strategic pillars:

  • Predicitivity of Efficacy Evaluation, with focus on the therapeutic areas: oncology, diabetes, inflammation and infectious diseases
  • Knowledge management.

An Information Day on Innovative Medicines Initiative  2nd call JU which will take place on 17 November 2009 in Brussels, see below for further information on the 2nd Innovative Medicines Initiative call. The information day will provide an overview of IMI and will offer potential applicants from academic teams, SMEs and non-profit organizations with relevant information regarding the preparation of expressions of interest in response to the new call.  For further information- http://imi.europa.eu/index_en.html
