Maritime Data and Information Assimilation

Military commanders and operators are presented with large amounts of data from sensors (sonar, radar and optical), communications networks and intelligence databases. Together with their own tacit and implicit knowledge they need to be able to sift and assimilate this data to make timely and informed responses into command and control systems.

The Ministry of Defence’s Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) is launching a competition for proposals which facilitate:

1.       Data presentation improvements to enable better visualisation of complex scenes at the command level.

2.       Operator level improvements to data handling:

  • improve data processing through cognitive training, automated workload management, novel human interface technology; and,
  • increase automated analysis of data (possibly to the extent of removing the human element) to reduce data loading, improve information extraction and information presentation.

The competition has unfortunately been postponed due to illness, but be rescheduled in early April. This will be of interest to a range of subject matter experts from academia and industry.

Potential applicants are strongly recommended to attend the seminar, registration is necessary via http://www.science.mod.uk

The brief will be available after the seminar in April.
