This competition is seeking new and innovative ways to increase the ability of soldiers on foot to identify the cues associated with local human behaviour, atmospheric (situational) indicators and the man-made changes to the environment that directly or indirectly occur when IEDs are concealed. Research proposals are invited in two key areas:
1. Improve the physical and cognitive performance of the soldier, individually and as part of a team, to:
a. identify and process IED related cues;
b. interpret the relevance and importance of identified cues; and,
c. make timely, relevant, and accurate decisions based on the identified cues.
2. Enhance a soldier’s ability to conduct the above whilst operating in a complex environment containing other threats, extreme environmental conditions, and the demands from other competing physical and cognitive tasks.
The competition will open on the 16th February at a Centre for Defence Enterprise CDE briefing event in Loughborough, which will focus on the current operational environments in which Search / Detect operators work.
