Battlefield Medical Technology

The MoD is seeking innovative research in the area of Battlefield Medical Technology, where Technology is defined in the broadest possible sense as "the application of practical sciences to industry or commerce, the methods, theory and practices of such application and the total knowledge and skills available." It is likely to focus on the current military medical priorities of Quality of Survival, Battlefield Analgesia and Medical Force Protection. Any developments in this area should consider their effects on Theatre Medical Sustainment which seeks to provide and sustain medical support to deployed forces in theatre through the optimisation of casualty evacuation and treatment timelines, and the provision of appropriate treatment facilities, medical equipment and supplies. This call is being developed by the Defence Technology and Innovation Centre, Surgeon General, the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff Health, the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and the Medical Logistics division.

Following a seminar on 22nd October, proposals for these short, focused demonstrations need to be submitted to Centre for Defence Enterprise by the 4th December 2009. Winning proposals will get a contract award within a few weeks leading to demonstration of their proof of principle within 6 months after contract award.
